[K-Drama] Netflix’s Move to Heaven: 17-year-old Half Malaysian Actor Tang Jun Sang as The Main Lead Geu Ru with Asperger’s Syndrome

Netflix’s new original Korean drama series, ‘Move to Heaven’ was finally premiered yesterday, releasing all 10 episodes available in Netflix now! After all, I just realized the main lead of the drama is a half Malaysian Korean actor!

‘Move to Heaven’ tells a story about ‘trauma cleaners’ who help the deceased to clean out their premise and kept those important items for their families. The main character, Geu Ru is a young man with complex mentality syndrome, called the Asperger’s Syndrome. The business was managed by his father who actually died of heart attack, leaving Geu Ru and after that with his uncle Sang Gu to continue the business.

About The Actor who Play as Geu Ru, the Special Boy

Not much people might know this, the rising actor Tang Jun Sang who was also casted in ‘Crash Landing On You’ as one of the four ‘North Korean’ soldiers alongside Ri Jung Hyuk, is actually much closely related to us, the Malaysians!

Malaysians are always proud of our talented bloods overseas, for example the actor Henry Golding from Crazy Rich Asians and The Conjuring movie series film director James Wan. Well, Tang Jun Sang revealed himself to the media that his father is a Malaysian Chinese married to her Korean mother. No wonder, there’s something different about him when I saw him in the drama (hehe, I’m proud).

About the main character of this drama, Geu Ru is indeed a very special character in the story. He was born as a special child under the lovely care of his single father (played by Ji Jin Hee). They both work together as trauma cleaners, while his father values this job very much as a connection of the deceased with their families. Geu Ru is a young boy with difficulties in expressing his thoughts and feelings. He talked like a ‘robot’, but he has fantastic memory and a special instinct to understand ‘creatures’ (watch the aquarium scene in Ep. 1). As a rising 17-year-old actor, Tang Jun Sang definitely nailed the character with those details like gesture, eye contact and speech behavior.

Referring to a five-minute scene in the series where Geu-ru names all the many living aquatic animals in a public aquarium, director Kim said: “He made no mistake and we filmed that scene in just one take. He is a genius actor.”

The Star

Speaking of the whole story itself is quite unique, as it’s not something common for us even to hear about ‘trauma cleaners’ in Malaysia. I did ‘Google Search’ if this job is ‘real’ and I found out indeed there are people work to offer cleaning services after murders, suicides and unattended deaths in private homes (click here to read more). As I’ve only watch the first episode, but many scenes have brought me goosebumps, not because of horror, but you can just connect yourself with the drama so much, especially when they are praying for the deceased before they started the cleaning.

Move To Heaven, EP 1

The Popular Actor Lee Je Hoon Played as The ‘Best Partner’ for Geu Ru

To be honest, I am not very familiar with this actor Lee Je Hoon, but apparently he grabbed many attentions from the viewers in hit dramas like Taxi Driver and Signal (which both I didn’t manage to watch). According to Hellokpop, he has challenged in many diverse characters in different dramas, from a tenor in Mr. Paparotti to a investigative figure in Signal. But he definitely is a good looking actor, follow his Instagram account and you will know it!

Lee Je Hoon played as Sang Gu is the drama, who is the uncle of Geu Ru. He just done his jail sentence as his brother passed away. Sang Gu soon became the guardian of Geu Ru, and took up the job of Move to Heaven with him. Although he was not much interested to the job in the beginning, but soon he understood why Geu Ru remained his motivation to take up the job. Sang Gu and Geu Ru eventually became close to each other by tolerating with their huge difference in personality. Definitely a sweet bromance to expect along the drama.

Well, not even curious of this drama now? Stream all episodes now in Netflix and remember to get some popcorn for a binge watch!
