The perfect neighborhood boy in the drama

I was already a fan of actor Kim Seon Ho since the drama ‘Start Up’ in which he played as the handsome mentor, Han Jipyeong! The second lead syndrom was hard after he was turned down by Suzy in the drama. Finally, our Good Boy shows his charming Good Boy side to the right girl in the on-going drama ‘Hometown Cha Cha Cha’ with actor Shin Min Ah!

Reasons Why We Love Start-Up's Han Ji-pyeong (and Kim Seon-ho) - KKday Blog
Dimple love from Good Boy Han Jipyeong!

I really like the concept of this character Hong Du Sik, who is a handsome, smart and helpful chief of village in Gongjin. He is always neatly dressed with bright and comfortable looks. Although Hye Jin mentioned he was a ‘fashion terrorist’, but I got so inspired by his outfit concept in the drama.

In this post, I will share some of the looks from the drama and recommend to you where to get them through YesStyle, the best place to get stylish men and women clothes!

Squid Game 101: The Korean Childhood Games Played in Netflix Drama, Squid Game

I’m very sure all our readers here have joined the crazy thrilling game event in the latest Netflix Korean Series, Squid Game (์˜ค์ง•์–ด๊ฒŒ์ž„) together with 456 people in an isolated island. Full with blood and suspense, I can feel the rollercoaster ride myself in the game with different plot twists and excellent screenplay in the short 9 episodes series.

Four hundred and fifty-six people, who have all struggled financially in life, are invited to play a mysterious survival competition. Competing in a series of traditionalย children’s gamesย but with deadly twists, they risk their lives to compete for aย โ‚ฉ45.6 billion (US$38.5 million) prize.

WIKIPEDIA
Squid Game GIF - Squid Game - Discover & Share GIFs

The main characteristic of this game event is by using Korean childhood games as the missions to select the winners and ‘eliminate’ those who fail to complete. Different with the other similar dramas (like Japanese series Alice in Borderland), using Korean childhood games as the main concept of the drama is a BIG move from the producers to create resonance among the Korean viewers. This explained why Squid Game is such a HIT as it was premiered in less than 3 days!

In this post, I will introduce the Korean childhood games that were featured in the drama. There might be some spoilers ahead, so please be aware for those who haven’t finish the series!

Ddakji (๋”ฑ์ง€)

The first game that all the invited players involved was the traditional game Ddakji! The ‘man in suit’ (played by Gong Yoo) invited Seong Gi Hun (played by Lee Jung Jae) to play Ddakji with him in the subway station. If Gi Hun win by flipping the opponent’s card, then he will be rewarded cash. This is a classic scene where many fans mentioned they are waiting for the man to approach them so they can be invited to the main game.

Ddakji ๋”ฑ์ง€ is a traditional South Korean game that uses folded paper tiles or Ddakji tiles. It is similar to the game Pogs (America), Menko (Japan), or Teks where the players take turns in flipping a tile. However, in Ddakji, there is no need for a slammer piece. The popular Korean variety shows Running Man featured this game often in their missions. Thus, it may have contributed to the widespread popularity of the game internationally.ย

Korea.net

How to play Ddakji?

To win the game, simply you just have to slap the opponent’s Ddakji hard on the floor, in order for it to flip. As the opponent’s Ddakji is flipped, then you will win the game!

Actually it’s not hard to do Ddakji even at home! Watch this video from Kat on how she make them creatively!

Green Light, Red Light

‘๋ฌด๊ถํ™” ๊ฝƒ ์ด ํ”ผ์—ˆ ์Šต๋‹ˆ๋‹ค!’ (mul-gong-hwa kkot i pi-eot-sseup-ni-da)

The song of this game ‘Green Light/Red Light’ kept playing on my mind since the day I watched this episode. Many of us remembered very much the HUGE ‘patung’ (figure) with laser scanning eyes that are somehow creepy even though it is a very common childhood game for most of us!

This game is played by many people in different countries. For Western, it’s called ‘Green Light Red Light’; for Chinese, it’s called ‘1,2,3 mu-tou-ren’; for Koreans, the sentence literally means ‘The hibiscus is blooming!’.

The game rules are simple. The contestants have to reach to the end line from a distance, however, you only can move when the ‘game master’ in front are saying the specific verse, facing backwards with the others. As the game master turns over after each verse, everyone must freeze at the spot until the game master continues for another round.

This is a very common game that ALL KOREANS once played before. Check out how TXT played this game!

Tug Of War (Tarik Tali)/(์ค„๋‹ค๋ฆฌ๊ธฐ)

Tug of War (simply tarik tali in Malay) is another common childhood game for Koreans and also most of us. Tug of War in Korean is called ์ค„๋‹ค๋ฆฌ๊ธฐ (jul-da-ri-gi) which traditionally played as a ritual and praying purpose in the agricultural communities. It is played in two teams, competing of strength of each team which can consists from few people to few hundreds people.

UNESCO_Tug_of_war_01.jpg
Farmers take part in a traditionalย juldarigiย tug of war, praying for a good harvest. Theย juldarigiย has now been listed as a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage item. (Source: Korea.net)

Juldarigi is not all about strength, but also about strategy, teamwork and unity, just like how the old man (player 001) suggested in the drama. This game represents the unity and solidarity across the community, win or lose.

Marble Game (๊ตฌ์Šฌ์น˜๊ธฐ)

The marble game mission was introduced at the 6th episode. This episode for me is the most touching one especially the scene between Sae-byeok and Ji-hyeon. Two members make into each team and they were instructed to play marble games with each other. The one who gets all the marbles (10 marbles) wins.

There are many ways to play marbles in Korean culture. The most common one is ํ™€์ง๊ณผ ์Œˆ์น˜๊ธฐ (hol-jak-gwa ssam-chi-gi), by guessing the marbles in the opponents’ hand if they are in odd or even number. If you guess it correctly, you will get the marbles from your opponent with the number of marble you holding in that round. If you guess it wrongly, you will handover the marbles to the opponents.

Squid Game (์˜ค์ง•์–ด ๋†€์ด)

The last game determines who is the winner in the drama, which is the ‘Squid Game’ itself. Squid game (์˜ค์ง•์–ด ๋†€์ด) is a popular Korean school backyard game back in the 80s. The players will be tagged as ‘offender’ or ‘defender’. Defense will stay inside the line, while offense will be outside the line, target to attack into the ‘squid’.

Squid Game' Season 1: Ending, Explained - Why Mastermind 'Il-nam' Created Survival Squid Game? | DMT

From the drama explanation, once the game starts, the defense can run around on two feet in bounds, while the offense outside the lines are only allowed to hop on one foot. But if an attacker cuts through the waist of the squid past the defense, they are given the freedom to use both feet (which is how Gi Hun enter the squid by attacking Sang Woo with the sand).

In order to win, the attackers must tap the small closed off space on the squidโ€™s head with their foot. But if someone on the defense manages to push you outside the squidโ€™s boundary, the defense will fail the game.

The Trending Dalgona Candy

Viral Squid Game, Ini 5 Fakta Permen Dalgona yang Jadi Tantangan Mematikan

Another mission game that worth to mention here is the Dalgona Candy game! Back in childhood time, the Dalgona candy is the favorite after school snacks among Korean children. It is common the stall selling Dalgona candy will challenge their buyers to ‘poke’ out the shapes in the candy with just a needle.

There is a trend in Malaysia and all around the world to make Dalgona Candy at home and try the game by ourselves. Indeed it’s very easy to make at home!

Who is Yang Do Hyeok in the Korean Drama ‘Nevertheless’?

If anyone here is watching the current hit K-drama ‘Nevertheless’, you should be like me who can’t help myself but fall in love with the warm and gentleman ‘Do-hyeok’ in the drama!

Netflix and JTBC’s romance drama ‘Nevertheless’ is a webtoon remake series which tells the stories of a university couple who are attracted to each other but are skeptical about love, owing to their past relationships. Park Jae Eon (by Song Kang) was perceived as a ‘flower boy’ who loves to interact with girls but dare not to be committed in real relationships. Yoo Na-bi (by Han So Hee) was so loved with Jae Eon but always pulled back because of trust issues with Jae Eon.

Towards the middle of the story, a new male character Do Hyeok joined in the chemistry making a scene of love triangle. Do-hyeok character is in contrast with Jae Eon, which he loves Na-bi since high school and serious about being in relationship with Na-bi.

Fans are really loving Do Hyeok the character as he is definitely a boyfriend material who is loyal and kind to the girl he loved. He definitely wins my heart during the Episode 6 when Nabi met him back in hometown.

Nevertheless Episode 6 Release Date Spoilers Alert K-Dram Netflix
How can Na-bi not fall in love with the little cute puppy looking boy!

The story continues even though Do Hyeok was ‘rejected’ by Na-bi when he was trying to confess his feeling to her one night, simply because it’s the wrong timing (after having an argument with Jae Eon). Will Do Hyeok become a real man in the eyes of Na-bi after that? Let us watch until the end of the drama!

Don’t be sad, Do Hyeok! I will get that flower!

So who is ‘Do Hyeok’ really in real life?

Many don’t know about him until this drama! His name is Chae Jong Hyeop from Seoul. He debuted as an actor since 2017 in a webtoon television series and also made his appearance in the popular drama Sisyphus: The Myth! Before he was debuted as an actor, he is a model as he actually graduated with Fashion Model Art in Seoul Arts College.

With that height of his and great appearance, it is not surprise he was a model before! However, he is now committed to the acting industry under the agency of YNK Entertainment with other popular actors and actress like Shin Hae Sun and Kim In Kwon.

This character of ‘Do-Hyeok’ really suits his concept as a sunny and caring boyfriend, which somehow reminds me of Han Jipyeong in Start Up! Second lead syndrome can be serious in some dramas~ But let us remember Jong Hyeop this name and give him more attention by waiting his new drama with another fresh character!

He also made appearance as a character in the new drama ‘The Witch Dinner’ with Song Ji-Hyo! Do catch him up in that drama as well!

As the drama ‘Nevertheless’ almost come to an end, we really hope it’s a nice ending for Jae Eon, Na-bi and even Do-hyuk!

Happy Left Handed Day Special: Korean Idols who are left handed!

Today is Left Handed day! Even not many of you celebrate it or know about this but being a left-handed is so special.

For your information, lefties make up only about 10 percent of the population which that make it special about who born to be left-handed.

Let’s see who idol or korean celebrities are left-handed.

1. Hwasa (MAMAMOO)

I personally think Hwasa left-handed is so special. With her long nails, she look pretty when holding a pen or choopstick with her left hand.

2. Rosรฉ (BLACKPINK)

Left-handed for sure have a creative, genius mind. We can see how Rose sing and made her own song, lyrics. That how left-handed are.

3. Daehwi (AB6IX)

Not only girl but boy also can be a left-handed. Look how Daehwi write with his hand, so cute and as mentioned lefties are creatives. Yes, he is! Did you know Daehwi made the song for his group when he was just 16 years old. I like ‘Hollywod’ by AB6IX.

4. Minggyu (Seventeen)

Not only his look, fashion, skincare, can you imagine him being a left-handed? Yes, he is. Minggu also left-handed.

5. Actor Kim Soo Hyun

Actor from the hit drama ‘You Who Come From The Star‘ & ‘It’s Okay To Not be Okay‘ also born as a left-handed. Have you seen him write?

6. Actress Shin Sekyung

Actress popular from ‘Run On‘ also born as a left-handed.

7. V (BTS)

V is ambidextrous meaning he uses both his right and left hands equally. However, he was born left-handed. What a genius good looking guy.

8. Jeong Yeon (TWICE)

Another idol claimed as ambidextrous but she said before she comfortable to use left hand rather than her right hand. Whatever reason it is, as long as they are comfortably doing it.

If I need to list down all, it might need another post but here it is idol that born as left-handed. Who know they might have your fav bias;

  • JB (GOT7)
  • Arin (OH MY GIRL)
  • Hongbin (VIXX)
  • I.M (MONSTAX)
  • Inseong (SF9)
  • Sujeong (LOVELYZ)
  • Changsub (BTOB)
  • Kwon Hyunbin
  • Miyeon (G-IDLE)

Being a lefties doesn’t mean you are weird or not special. it special enough to be part of the 10 percent population in the word that use left hand to write and eat.

Even though they will have some part that uncomfortable for leftie but still we need to appppreciate everyone. Happy International Left Handed Day!

Like if you’re left handed!

K-pop Fan Story: How I became an BTS army โŸญโŸฌ๐Ÿ’œ

In this post I’ll be talking about how I started my K-pop journey, became a BTS army & how it affected my life.

Warning! It’s going to be a long post!

Disclaimer: The author & the website do not own any photos attached to this post. Any copyright violated, please contact us at mydaehan2020@gmail.com!

Before getting into the world of kpop, I didn’t had any particular taste in music I would only listen to Hindi songs that i used to hear often on TV & bunch of English songs that my elder cousins used to listen. Justin Bieber was literally the only singer I knew well about.

20 Best Bollywood Song GIF's Of 2018 That Will Help You Make A Cool Playlist For Every Mood On NYE! | GirlStyle India

The biggest obstacle in my K-pop journey was the fact that I got a phone only in 2019 when I was 15. I couldn’t discover anything before it, basically I missed so much fun. When I finally got a phone in 2019, I soon discovered K-dramas & C-dramas coz it was hot topics in India, my first K-drama was “Her Private Life” on Viki, I loved every bit of it and after that I became a K-drama addict.

Her Private Life Episodes 11-12: A Chatty Recap | Dramas with a Side of Kimchi

The thing is I’m not much of a discovering person, so I still had no idea about K-pop. Then one day while scrolling through social media. I bumped into one of the BLACKPINK’s song “Kill this love”.

It was something I had never experienced, I was totally unaware of this concept. I looked it up on YouTube and watched their MV, I fell in love with it. The video lyrics & girls all were DOPE, soon after I listened to their other songs & all of them were cool. It made me sing even though I didn’t know what does that means.

Jisoo Jennie Rosรฉ Lisa Blackpink in your area!!! | BLINK (๋ธ”๋งํฌ) Amino

I soon caught up with other contents, BLACKPINK’s house videos, them in different shows, their IG updates & anything I could get my hands on. I really loved BLACKPINK and their songs but I never connected to them or blinks the way I did with BTS, BLACKPINK was a nice & lovely group for me but BTS & army felt more like a family.

As I said earlier I’m not much of a discovering person, I only knew about BTS until it was 2020, everything was starting to be fine after an anguish & I was trying to get my life together then COVID-19 happened. Right when I made my mind to study hard & be attentive my country went in a lockdown.

I did dreamed of having a long break where I’ll only use my phone, eat & watch TV. But now, it happened that way I wasn’t happy.

On one sunny day I randomly looked up on Google about BTS, the person who caught my eyes first was the “World Wide Handsome Jin”! To be honest, I couldn’t differentiate the members at first. To me, most of them really looked alike. I couldn’t even remember their names at first. But I had this feeling that I wanted to know more about them!

BTS: Jin Explains How He Practiced 'Daechwita' and 'Chicken Noodle Soup' for BTS 2021 MUSTER SOWOOZOO

The first M/V that I watched was “Blood Sweat & Tears”. The lines were catchy & the whole M/V was super cool & mysterious, it gives off a classy yet curious vibe. I watched a few more videos later. The one with all the groovy vibes written in deep & enchanting lyrics will go to the song “Bulletproof Eternal” & “Life Goes On” especially for encouragement & strength.

I finally became an ARMY after getting to know them more than their music videos. Seeing their wholesome love for their fandom, them laughing & loving each other, having each other’s back even in a difficult period, BTS became so many people’s hope. For the first time of my life, I felt connected to someone. I couldn’t stop watching their other contents, their every word was meaningful & beautiful, they are so down to earth, humorous & everything about them was charming, it was like a total different world for me as I got to know them more. I felt attached to the point they became an important part of my life.

K-pop group BTS concert movie 'Break The Silence: The Movie' in cinemas Sept 10 | The Star

As I was late in being a part of the fandom, I had so much to catch up with. My everyday went by watching Run BTS episodes, interviews, their random videos or playing BTS world. From not having a single presence to them being a main character of my life, it went pretty fast!

Year 2020 would’ve been the worst year of my life, I don’t have many friends & had no inspiration in the only activity that interests me i.e. drawing, I was so low, kept getting lazy & feeling dull. That’s when they came to sparkle my life, it was like I got a muse, I loved drawing them even if it wasn’t so good but it was the best I’ve ever done. I was so happy of becoming an ARMY. Being a K-pop fan takes you to a whole new world, a fantastic place you’ve never been.

I was so grateful and happy I remember when ‘Dynamite’ was released all I could think was: OMG I got to experience BTS new song now I won’t have any regrets if I die now ๐Ÿ˜‚

Then again 2021 was going awful for me, exams getting postponed, incomplete syllabus & lockdown again due to the 2nd wave of COVID-19, I was so stressed to the point I felt hopeless, my friends were literally the only physical existence that made me feel happy but I couldn’t meet them. Anxiety was eating me up from inside and that’s when BTS decided to do “Bang Bang Con”

K-pop band BTS announces 'Bang Bang Con 2021' - when and where to watch

It was that for me, the turning point, after spending three successful sad months it changed, on 17 April 2021, that was the time I felt most attached with them. I felt so close with the Bangtan boys while watching Bang Bang Von, almost felt like I’m in concert, I’ve never been to any so I don’t know how it feels,
When they looked in camera I felt they were looking through my soul, I smiled every time and get myself cheered with the present ARMY!

Their never-ending ‘Thanks’ and ‘I love you’, them talking about themselves, and how happy they are, ARMY’s beautiful sea and their beautiful faces, I sometimes wanted to cry. BTS danced their songs many times and they played all of my favorites in the concert. And, I didn’t know their parents attends their concert too!

I am so thankful to BTS for everything, for making my day better, for loving me, for healing me, for existing. I’ve never watched their online concert before, it was a very big moment for me!

So many things changed for me, everything has been positive. I met new amazing peoples & started this activity, my exams got cancelled & I was finally free to focus on myself!

I believe in miracles now, coz what happened to me can’t be a coincidence. They were a gift to me from God right when I needed them the most. I can’t imagine how my life would’ve been without them! I wasn’t always the person I am right now, BTS has a huge part in my personality change, the way I think and respond to things, being positive & loving myself, everything.

~Zeba, a BTS’s ARMY

Her life plan falls apart because of the tiny bit of righteousness in her heart, and after various obstacles, she moves to the seashore village Gongjin and meets Mr. Hong. Hong Doo Shik is known as Mr. Hong around town. He is unemployed officially, but he is a master of odd jobs who appears to help everyone in Gongjin with any situation they run into.

Style Yourself with Park Jae Eon (Song Kang) in Nevertheless

Park Jae Eon in the recent Netflix K-drama, Nevertheless has been a ‘hot topic’ among the drama fans of how ‘smart’ this guy in playing feelings of the girls, especially towards Na-bi, the female lead.

Despite of the fact that he is an ultimate ‘playboy’, we can’t deny his visuals. I mean who won’t fall in love with this guy’s perfect look! I have been following Song Kang from ‘Sweet Home’ and ‘Navillera’, and one of the reason I like this actor is his genuine acting skills and the visuals.

In this post, let us learn to style like Song Kang (in his character of Jae Eon as a university student)! Indeed, his style is with simple and nice concept!
