To all the EXO fans, today is your day! Happy EXO-L Day and we are all proud to be one of the biggest fandom in the K-pop industry over the years!

August 5th is the anniversary for the formation of Korean boy band EXO fandom, EXO-L and the year 2021 will mark the 7th year! EXO-L Day has became a special day for EXO and all the EXO-Ls to gather in their social media and celebrate for this remarkable anniversary. To many K-pop fans, this is something like their birthday, in celebrating their significance of being an EXO-L for the boy group.

What does #L1485 means?

If you notice, the hashtags in trend at Twitter and Instagram are all included with a special code of L1485. Alphabet ‘L’ simply means the fandom name, EXO-L; while 1485 is actually the date when the fandom was established on August 5th, 2014!

Why is EXO fans called ‘EXO-L’?

The boy group EXO generally have two subunits, EXO-K and EXO-M. The letter between K and M is actually L, which makes the fans being named EXO-L, which also stands for EXO-Love. Another name of EXO fans are Eri, which gives the meaning of guardian and blessings in Korean.

To celebrate this special day, EXO-L have made the hashtag #L1485ToForever trending in Twitter, and currently rank top in Malaysia! Even though EXO members faced many challenges along the way since their debut, EXO-Ls prove themselves that they will always stay by their side to support them until forever!

The Korean actor, Kim Seon Ho has been the attention after his role of ‘Good Boy’ in K-drama ‘Start-up’ last year. The charming man finally made his drama comeback with actress Shin Min Ah in the latest drama remake ‘Hometown Cha Cha Cha’ airing on 28 August 2021 in tvN and Neflix!

Kim Seon Ho who is already in his 35 started the TV career in 2017 with KBS drama ‘Good Manager’ and later on make his appearance in ‘Welcome to Waikiki Season 2’! His popularity went viral as he played as Han Ji-pyeong, the Mr. Dimple behind the success of his crush Dal Mi and a good grandson to her grandmother.

About the drama ‘Hometown Cha Cha Cha’

Yoon Hye Jin is a woman who has both beauty and brains. Her life plan falls apart because of the tiny bit of righteousness in her heart, and after various obstacles, she moves to the seashore village Gongjin and meets Mr. Hong. Hong Doo Shik is known as Mr. Hong around town. He is unemployed officially, but he is a master of odd jobs who appears to help everyone in Gongjin with any situation they run into.

This drama is actually a remake of the Korean movie, ‘Mr. Hong’ aired back in year 2004 played by actor Kim Joo Hyuk and Uhm Jung Hwa! The male lead, Doo Sik or called us Mr. Hong is described as a man with perfect visuals and warm personality who is also a recognized ‘hero’ in the small village of Gongjin.

The main female character, Hye Jin (played by Shin Min Ah) just moved to the village with obstacles and challenges. As Mr. Hong is a helpful man, he helped out Hye Jin to settle down on the small village which makes them getting closer to each other!

Personally I love the actress Shin Min Ah as well since I watched her appearance in the popular drama Oh My Venus with So Ji Sub. She is definitely a true beauty with excellent acting experience! I can’t wait to see the chemistry between this couple, Kim Seon Ho and Shin Min Ah!

2010s K-pop Songs that Brings Back Memories in Summer

K-wave has hit into my life 10 years ago, and K-pop songs in the 2010s are a big part of my high school life! In this post, let us review some of the most classic K-pop songs released in the past decade to match your summer playlist!

High five if you’re same as me, who started your K-pop fanboy/fangirl journey with 2nd generation K-pop idols. Idols who were such a hit when I first listened to K-pop around 2010s are BIGBANG, 2NE1, Super Junior, Wonder Girls, BEAST, SHINee, F(X), SISTAR, KARA, 2PM, 2AM and so many more.

My bias was (‘IS’) 2PM because for no reasons, they are just perfect! But at the same time, I’m also following other groups because they really produced many great songs which are being ‘respected’ in the industry until now. Artists from different agencies have their own production and fashion concepts which always excites K-pop fans for any comebacks from the artists.

Touch My Body | SISTAR

The four members girl-group, SISTAR by Starship Entertainment was popular with their sexy concept that killed millions of boy fans in the world. ‘Touch My Body’ released in July, 2014 rapidly became a hit to start off the summer season. I still remembered vividly some of the classic ‘hippie move’ in this choreography.

Hot Summer | f(x)

‘Hot Summer, Hot Hot Summer…’
I believe any 2nd generation idol fans can relate to me because this song was the top of the chart as it was released in the summer 10 years ago! f(x) was a 5 members girl group formed with members from different backgrounds under SM Entertainment. The group concept in their production works were always experimental and foreign during the time but their bold ideas grab attention from many K-pop fans!

I AM THE BEST | 2NE1

2NE1 is another pioneer of the industry during the 2010s K-pop trend managed by YG Entertainment. The four members group was considered the queen of K-pop as they received support not only from fans of South Korea but also on international stages. ‘I AM THE BEST’ was released on June 2011, integrating different music genres of electronic, hip hop and electro house. The song brings great meaning to inspire and motivate people to be their best self.

Hands Up | 2PM

Such a coincidence, this song that I want to recommend which is 2PM’s ‘Hands Up’ was also released on June 2011! I think any great songs that released during that summer would go into hit! ‘Hands Up’ by 2PM brought their fans to a club party with its electronic disco beats produced by the boss Park Jin Young (JYP) himself. This song gave a new image to their fans as they are slowly transforming their concept from wild masculine beasts into matured sexy men.

WE LIKE 2 PARTY | BIGBANG

BIGBANG is definitely in the list among the best 2nd Generation K-pop idols we all are missing so much now. Even though the group was never disbanded officially, but they have been inactive since the Seungri scandal. The song ‘WE LIKE 2 PARTY’ was released on June 2015 under the album ‘MADE’. This is another party song like ‘Hands Up’ but in a more chill, relax and laid back beats.

Beautiful Night | BEAST/HIGHLIGHT

BEAST was also an iconic male idols during the 2010s with their handsome visuals and genuine vocals! All members are ‘aces’ which are good in dancing and singing, even rapping. ‘Beautiful Night’ was released on 2012 in the album of ‘Midnight Sun’ and was also nominated as the Best Song of the Year. Get your gears up and enjoy a night summer party with BEAST members! (*BEAST members are now named HIGHLIGHT as they changed their agency)

I believe most of us will ask yourself this question every weekend, ‘what am I going to do today?’. Weekends are the days we can plan out activities that we like to do without going to the office!

The phrase ” 오늘 뭐 할까? ” means what (am I/are you) going to do today in an informal way. Depends on the context, if you are talking to yourself and express this phrase to yourself, it means “What am I going to do today?”. You can use this phrase to ask someone which will means “What are you going to do today”, or in full “너 오늘 뭐 할까?”

Eg. (informal situation)


아리: 형, 오늘 뭐할까? 같이 맞집 갈까 ?
hyung, o-neul bwo-hal-gga? woo-ri kat-chi mat-jib kal-kka?

Ali: Hyung (a friend who is senior than you), what are going to do today? Let’s go to a nice restaurant together, shall we?

I’m not sure if this drama will be suitable to watch if you miss your boyfriend, because in some parts of the story I was cursing how ‘playboy’ the boy lead in this drama.

The on-going JTBC and Netflix romance drama, “Nevertheless” (알고있지만) is a remake of the popular comic story of a university art student, Na-bi (Han So-hee) falling in love to a handsome man, Jae-eon (Song Kang) who tend to be ‘nice’ to many girls.

The visuals of the two main leads are good enough as a ‘comforting’ element of this drama. Many girls will want a boyfriend who look like Song Kang, and maybe the sweet, romantic gestures of Jae-eon in the drama. If you are away with your boyfriend, this could bring in some sweet memories of dating him! But there are some scenes you just wish Na-bi just stay away from this selfish guy who was just being nice to all the girls.

Not sure if it helps with your stress, but seeing Song Kang himself is a happy pill already to me. 🙂

There are not much Korean dramas that can make you laugh throughout the whole episode! “So Not Worth It” tells the story of love and friendship among the international students residing in a university. As a sitcom genre, the drama tells different funny experiences that the characters face every day in the international dorm.

All the characters portray university students from different countries, but they all communicate in fluent Korean. All episodes can be watched now in Netflix, and all of them are just 30 minutes, perfect for a short break entertainment when you feel stressed from work!

There are many funny scenes between the character. One of my favorite was Minnie from Thailand (played by Minnie from K-pop group, (G)I-DLE.) She was like me – a Korean content fan who watch K-drama everyday and dream to meet K-drama characters every night! I can relate so much to this drama as I’m also a university student, but hoping that I can meet a bunch of friends like them in a Korean university!

If you are feeling stressed and down in mood, watch ‘So Not Worth It’ for a short episode and you will come back fully energized!

DAY6 (Even of Day) Back to Comfort The Days this Summer with New Album “Right Through Me”

One of the most popular Korean Boy Band, DAY6’s subunit Even of Day is back with another series of ‘comfort’ songs in their new mini album “Right Through Me”!

DAY6 just released their latest album “The Book of Us: Negentropy” this year May after the enlistment of the band leader, Sungjin! The Days are definitely even happier to hear their new works again after 2 months with Even of Day making their comeback.

What is Even of Day? : DAY6 (Even of Day) is a subunit from DAY6 formed by Young K, Wonpil and Dowoon. Young K and Wonpil are my favorite vocalists in the main band while Dowoon is the drummer. The trio made their first appearance with their first mini album last summer in 2020, “The Book of Us, Gluon” and the title track “When the Sea Sleeps” is among my favorite song of them!

About the title song ‘Right Through Me’ (뚫고 지나가요)

According the NME, we can feel all the vibes and feelings of nostalgia, modern, sad and hope in the short 3 minutes of this song. DAY6 were interviewed on how they came out with this work with the combination of different styles.

We didn’t think of every single part of what we made, but just went with the flow. When we’re singing a bright song, we want it to be touching, and when we’re singing a sad song, we want to put hope in it.

The album concept was vintage to match the styles of their songs in the album. To be honest, DAY6 members’ visuals are the best in the industry. Personally, I’m very ‘attached’ to Wonpil. He is handsome, he knows music, and most importantly, his voice is just heavenly. 🙂

I’ve been listening to DAY6 songs since their debut and there are not many successful Korean bands like them in the industry.

While many fans complain about how DAY6 were not treated fairly by their agency, they are doing their best to produce more songs that connect to The Days! Their songs always comfort me when I feel down and discouraged, and also during moments of happiness!

Last night, JYP released another music video of 2PM ‘Must’ album track, ‘The Cafe’ (집앞카페), showing all our 2PM boys ready for a getaway out from the city!

2PM Wooyoung also joined in writing this song and he is definitely talented in producing good songs like the title track ‘Make It’! ‘The Cafe’ is a relaxing song to listen to, with light beats of R&B. Personally, I really like the rap part of Wooyoung and Taecyeon. The music video was shot in a humble hut out of the city, while the members are dressed comfortably enjoying their day out with coffee, BBQ and nice views.

‘The Cafe’ lyrics tell how a romantic boyfriend wanting to invite the girl he loved to his secret café in front of his house. As couples always like quiet places to have some solo time to deepen the connection with each other, the song also expresses how he miss the girl and wanting to meet just her in the cozy quiet café!
