Korean from Song Lyrics (Baekhyun – CANDY Edition) 🍬

Have you check out a new release from one of South Korean talented vocalist, EXO’s Baekhyun? This second comeback comes with a title track #Candy which yea melts everyone’s heart with his sweet voice (ofc), like a candy. So for this part, we will learn Korean from some part of the lyrics!

Just like our previous article Korean from Kdrama, this article would be the same! You will learn new words and vocab from the song lyrics. Exciting isn’t it? Are you ready to jump into Baekhyun’s candy world? Kaja!

I am excited too~ hehe!

Wait a minute!

First I will introduce the basic words related with songs:

  • 노래 (No-rae) = Song
  • 가사 (Ka-sa) = Lyrics

Now you have learn the basic vocabs, lets study together the actual lyrics 🙂 Let’s see what we will learn from Baekhyun’s candy shop!

OMG WHO IS THAT???! 🙂

1. Honey 아직도 고민해?

I am screaming! What? Baekhyun just called me Honey??? jkjkjk now let’s see whats the meaning of it

  • 아직도 (ajik-do) = still
  • 고민해 (go-min-hae) = worrying, having concern on something

Honey 아직도 고민해? = Honey, are you still worried?

Tell me, what you’re waiting for?❤

2. 그래 넌 조심스럽게

  • 그래 (geu-rae) = yes, okay
  • 넌 (neon) = you are
    • 넌 is a simplified word for 너는
  • 조심스럽게 (josim-seu-reob-kei) = careful, being careful
    • 조심스럽다 (josim-seu-reob-da) means to be careful.
그래 넌 조심스럽게 >>> yes, you’re careful 😉

3. 특별한 내가 될게

  • 특별한 (teuk-byeol-han) = special
  • 내가 (nae-ga) = me, I
  • 될게 (dwel-gei) = will be
    • the root word is 되다 (doe-da) which means ‘to be’. 될게 is in the future tense form.

특별한 내가 될게 = I will be the (something) special

4. 어른스러운 시나몬, 좀 웃기는 민트

  • 어른스러운 (eo-reun-seu-reo-woon) = mature
    • The root word is 어른스럽다 (eo-reun-seu-reob-ta) which means to be mature. Since it is used as adjective for the noun (Cinnamon), it is changed into 어른스러운
  • 시나몬 (si-na-mon) = cinnamon
  • 좀 (jom) = some, a little bit
  • 웃기는 (ut-ki-nun) = funny, dorky
    • The root word is 웃기다 which means to make/get something to laugh, it is changed to 웃기는 since it is followed by a noun (Mint) so it becomes an adjective that describe it (N).
  • 민트 (min-teu) = mint

5. 뭐가 널 웃게 하니?

  • 뭐가 (mwo-ga) = what does
    • as usual 가 is the subject marker for 뭐 so it becomes what does or what is
  • 널 (neol) = you
    • the simplified word for 너를, ‘you’ as the object since it is using 를 as a particle.
  • 웃게 (ut-kei) = smile
  • 하니 (ha-ni) = make, do

뭐가웃게 하니? what makes you smile?

뭐가 널 웃게 하니???

6. 그게 나였으면 해

  • 그게 (keu-gei) = that, it
  • 나 (na) = me
  • 였으면 해 (na-yeo-sseu-myeon) = wish that was (to express a desire)
    • -으면 is a grammar expression for ‘if it (is)’, -였으면 is used since it is in past tense, so it becomes ”-if it was”.
    • 였으면 해 is followed by 해 so it becomes another meaning which is ‘I wish’.

그게 나였으면 해 means I wish it was me


7. 받아줄래? invitation

  • 받아 (ba-da) = accept
    • comes from the word 받다 which means ‘to accept’.
  • 줄래 (jul-lae) = will (you)
    • 주다 + -(으)ㄹ래요
      • 주다 is to give
      • -(으)ㄹ래요 used to express willingness or intent to do something.
  • 받아줄래? = Will you accept?

받아줄래? invitation >>> Will you accept my invitation?

Everyone gather, I want to ask who didnt accept his invitation.

8. 조마조마한 시간

  • 조마조마한 (jo-ma-jo-ma-han) = nervous
    • 조마조마하다 means to be nervous of something, or anxious.
  • 시간 (si-gan) = time, hour

조마조마한 시간 = a nervous hour, an hour of anxiety


9. 네 옆에 내가 있게

  • 네 옆에 (ne-yeop-ei) = your side
    • 네 (nei) is your
    • 옆에 (yeop-ei) is beside, by side
  • 내가 있게 (nae-ga-it-kei) = i will be (here)
    • 내가 (nae-ga) is I
    • 있게 =(it-kei) is will be

네 옆에 내가 있게 = I will be by your side

yes please stay here

10. Do it so sweet, 난 여기 있어 뭘 더 원해?

  • 난 여기 있어 = I am over here
    • 난 (nan) = I am
    • 여기 (yeo-gi) = here, over here
    • 있어 (isseo) original word is 있다 = be, to exist
  • 뭘 더 원해? = what do you want more?
    • 뭘 (mwol) = what
      • 뭐 + 를, ‘what’ as an object
    • 더 (deo) = more
    • 원해 (weon-hae) = want
      • original word is 원하다, means ‘want for’

Do it so sweet, 난 여기 있어 뭘 더 원해?
Do it so sweet, I am over here, what do you want more?

난 여기 있어!!!!
